The Oregon Lavender Festival is a fundraiser for local charitable causes.

A significant portion of the proceeds from this year’s festival will be donated to the Yamhill Community Resource Center, advocating support for local community programs aimed at the arts and people of all ages.

What is YCRC?

Yamhelas Community Resource Center is Yamhill's non-profit community center.  Established in 1993, YCRC has a 9 member volunteer Board of Directors.

The YCRC Mission:

"To strengthen the Yamhill community by mobilizing local resources to serve the needs of Yamhill's children and families."

What does YCRC do?
YCRC TextNetwork, network, network!  YCRC volunteers and staff work together to connect local support to serve the community.  Much effort and thrift has gone into planning of programs and projects to ensure the community's available resources are used in the most efficient manner possible.

The partnership with the school district has greatly reduced overhead costs and increased convenience by housing summer, after school, and preschool in the school facility instead of another location.  This saves LOTS OF MONEY and is consistent with the WIN/WIN philosophy of YCRC!

YCRC currently maintains partnership programs with Carlton Together Cares, the Yamhill Carlton School District, YCAD Coalition, local churches, Yamhill County Cultural Coalition, Commission on Children and Families, and other community supporters.  Projects include teen work experience and mentoring, bingo for local seniors, Kidspace After School, Kidspace Summer Program, Little Cubs Preschool, the CommUnity Press, and seasonal community events.

How can you get involved?
LOTS OF WAYS!

  1. Become a member- public board meetings are usually the 2nd Tuesdays of the month at 7 pm at the Pythian Hall on 2nd Street in Yamhill.  Contact Michelle to have meeting Agendas and Minutes sent to you.
  2. Send some input- we are always looking for new ways to serve the community.  This is very difficult if we don't know what the needs are.  If you have an idea, let us know!
  3. Send money- yes, money always helps!  Contributions are tax-deductible and can be used for specific things.  For example:  you can donate to provide snacks for an event or sponsor a child in some activities.  A very conservative Board of Directors of your neighbors ensure that every penny is stretched to its full potential.
  4. Volunteer your time and talent- do you like to teach crafts?  Want to start a club or hobby-group?  Do you go nuts for seasonal events?  If there is something you like to do and want to share it, please let us know!

Some exciting projects in 2006 include the successful program listed above, a Naturescape Project led by Laura McMasters, and Lavender Festival scheduled for July 2007.  This is a very exciting time to engage in community service and development with new families moving in and current families growing up.
