A bit of history about Oregon Lavender Destinations...
In July 2000, a group of Lavender growers from farms scattered
in the countryside around Portland, Oregon, got together and
came up with the idea of organizing a weekend of lavender festivities
so that visitors could plan a "day in the country" experiencing
the beautiful sight and smell of lavender farms in full bloom.
They started the Portland Lavender Festival.
Around
the same time, a dynamic group of ladies based in Yamhill decided
that they would also open the area lavender farms to the public
for a weekend each year, and center festivities around an Artisan's
fair right in the middle of historic downtown Yamhill. They formed
the Yamhill Valley Lavender Festival.
By
a twist of good fate, in 2007 these two groups got together and
decided to join forces into one big lavender festival. Thus the
Oregon Lavender Festival was born. In 2008, the group created
the Oregon Lavender Association, a non-profit
organization dedicated to the promotion of lavender
and lavender-centric businesses in Oregon. The Oregon Lavender
Association (OLA) website is www.oregonlavender.org. |
